Google announced the release of the iGoogle Themes API, which allows for user-generated iGoogle Themes. Now, anyone who can build a webpage can design an iGoogle Theme. Opening themes gives users more options for personalizing iGoogle pages, whether that be through creating new themes, or through choosing a user-created theme.Developers are an important part of our innovation ecosystem and we’re always striving to release tools to help them innovate in new directions that will ultimately make the web richer for all users. With the iGoogle Themes API, developers can design and share a theme with the tens of millions of iGoogle users around the world, providing even more options for users to customize their iGoogle experience.
To jumpstart the development of iGoogle Themes, we’ve released custom themes from innovative designers Yves Behar, Mark Frauenfelder, Troy Lee and John Maeda. These themes are great examples of creative, high-quality themes and we hope will inspire theme designers.Along with the release of the iGoogle Themes API we’ve also created a themes directory. Similar to the Google Gadgets directory, this directory allows users to find and select a theme for their iGoogle page.

Domain king’s rivers of gold

The Sydney Morning Herald and Age (Melbourne) newspapers profile Rick Schwartz giving publicity to domaining. The article gives a lot of prominence to the few hours of work Rick actually does for his “millions of dollars in annual income from his 6000-odd properties.”Rick says he is shocked more people have not got into buying and selling domain names, or the rivers of gold flowing through domaining. “I have a great lifestyle because the dollars come in the same whether I work or not,” Schwartz told the newspapers in an email interview that came about after selling iReport.com to CNN for $US750,000 this month.
Describing his day, he says “So I only work when I see opportunity. My most productive time is in the morning from about 5.30am to 9.30am with a break just for breakfast. Then off to a nice lunch. Then usually some type of leisure activity. Then a couple of hours to relax. Then dinner. Then watch some nightly TV and off to bed.”
Rick has around 6,000 domain names in his portfolio, but has sold fewer than ten domain names to date for a total of around $US3million, including US$1.3million for men.com in 2004. He names his smartest acquisition as porno.com, which has related advertising, acquired for $42,000 in 1997, and now earns him more than $1million annually. Rick estimates he has spent $5million so far acquiring domain names.
There is also mention of the local Dark Blue Sea that owns around 400,000 domain names, a company listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and rarely sells its domain names, rather builds websites to suit their domains.
Caution is given though as people such as Rick, and the Cayman Island-based Frank Schilling, got in early. Andrew Alleman of Domain Name Wire says “It’s hard work mixed with a bit of luck.” Schilling is reported as having a portfolio of around 300,000 domain names that earn him $20million annually.

TVnima.com - You Be the Director on a Virtual

TVnima would be ideal for those who’ve always wanted be on TV, but have been burdened with radio faces. Actually, the site allows users to create news programs using 3D avatars, photos and videos. Once you’ve loaded your media, you play the director and call all the shots, deciding where to place the camera, what angles to record, and what tracks to use. There are three screens to work from: the Project screen where you load previous and new work, the Customization screen from which you tailor your presenter and the set, and the Director screen where you can add media, and camera gestures on a timeline. Several different software are involved and TVanima is still in alpha, so some things may not run so smoothly. Besides that caveat, TVanima is cost free and it at the least you can flex your journalistic chops.

How Much Is Your Blog Worth?
October 7th, 2007 · No Comments
Tristan Louis did some math based on the Technorati metrics for all the blogs in the Weblogs Inc network vs. the $25 million the network reportedly sold for. Of course, a blog in a network is worth more than a blog by itself, but it still leaves you with a fun way of putting a price on your own blog.
First, some notable blogs in the Weblogs network (go to Tristan for the whole list):
Engadget: $7.54 million
TUAW (Apple blog): $1.046 million
Google: $297,000
Microsoft: $148,000
Blogging E3: $564 (ouch!)
Blog Maverick (Marc Cuban): $1.082 million
Jason Calacanis: $646,000
The consumer blogs are far and away the most valuable, accounting for over $15 million of the $25 million.
Now, to perform some calculations on some of my favorite blogs. At $564 per inbound link, here are the values:
InsideGoogle: $1,231,776
InsideMicrosoft: $369,420
Google Blogoscoped: $3,223,260
Scoble: $6,990,780
Steve Rubel: $4,290,348
Search Engine Watch blog: $4,086,180
Coolz0r: $219,960 (and its still a relatively new blog!)
Randy Charles Morin (KBCafe.com): $946,392; RSS blog: $225,600; iBLOGthere4iM: $166,944; AdWords blog: $15,228
Search Engine Roundtable: $1,791,828 (quite a wedding present)
Oh, and Tristan’s own blog is worth $350,808. List any others you find interesting, that I missed, or your own blog.
Internet Marketing-Why Is It So Difficult?

One of the things that formulate Internet marketing so intricate is that you can’t centralize it, but you can definitely manage it. In order to accomplish something at search marketing, you need to assemble everybody to function on your Web site and on your Internet marketing too. Moreover you need to have a lot of employees for penning down their individual blogs to make the perpetual impression on your customers’ perceptions.
By instituting the policies, rendering training, and monitoring the consequences, you direct the Internet marketing. Apart from this, you also need to bring your procedures up- to- date so that the workforce know what are the expectations hoped from them. As well as you need to educate them the new skills and approaches and make sure that you pay heed to success metrics.
Demo places a genuine person in front of your customer who will demonstrates the value of the product and observe the protests which are going to be lifted up and than venture to resolve it.
“Customer-facing” appears to be the just one more portion of business language that may be draining out its effectiveness. Hence, perhaps it will be an exaggeration to articulate that totally everyone is customer-facing, but everyone probably is. Don’t permit your challengers swarm your customers with their employees while you sit back and presume that advertising is for the marketing department and sales are for the sales department. Make up your mind to become the customer-facing in the present day as well as start recruiting the rest of your company too.
If your search marketing is built around ranking #1 than it is the high time to go back to fundamentals. Its moment to understand what your translations are, how many people are renovating, what search keywords they are using, and how you know how to yank your keywords and your Web site to craft those conversions go up. Since the rankings are about to vanish, at any time the search engines want them to.
To centralize, outsource or entrust something to a specialist is easy as ABC, whereas to change the organizational culture and to accomplish something with these new marketing approaches is Herculean task to deal at the same time.

Make Money Online Now With Blog SEO

Blogging is becoming a very popular thing in the internet world lately because people are realizing that you can actually make money online now with good blogging techniques. If you know what you’re doing with a blog, then chances are you can monetize it and make a good buck doing it. The problem for most people is that they write up a decent post, but they don’t know where to go from there, and then they think it’s just not working. That’s where Search Engine Optimization (SEO) comes in handy.
There are a few decent ways to optimize your blog for the search engines to help you make money online now so that the search engines spider your site and make your posts available when someone does a Google search for a topic within your post.
One way to SEO your blog is to do what you would do with your main website – that is, start with your domain name. If you want to attract the “make money online now” crowd, you could use those keywords in your domain. This is a good trick to getting more recognition in and traffic from the search engines. You can do the same for your blog domain name.
The next thing to consider when creating a blog is to modify your blog template so that your main keywords, like “make money online now”, are included in your title, description, and headers. When you do a search and arrive at a new site, you will see a blue title bar at the top of the page, as well as a site description and large headings.
In your template, you can change the words in the “title”, “description”, and “h1″ or “h2″ tags to be whatever keywords you want to attract traffic with. These keywords will be the prominent words in your site’s listings in the search engines, so use a good keyword research tool, and choose wisely!
You may decide to choose 10 or 11 good keywords for your blog, and put the most important ones, like “make money online now” in your domain, title, description, and headers, and then use the other keywords you are targeting within your blog posts. I like to focus on only one keyword per post and sprinkle it throughout the post. Overdoing it can backfire on you and appear more like a spam post that you may get penalized for, so use the general rule of no more than one keyword per paragraph, and you should be okay.
Something the search engines really like is when you place links within your blog posts using your chosen keywords and linking back to your main site, or internal pages of your site. You may even find that the more deep, internal links you have to other pages on your blog or site, the more traffic you will get than if you always point back to just your main site. If I use the keywords “make money online now” as a link in my blog post, I would be better off to point that link to another blog post I made earlier on making money online, for example.
You may already know that the search engines read your site from top to bottom and left to right. This means that if you have a left column for your site, it will read from the top of that left column to the bottom of that left column before actually reading your blog post. This is quite significant to know because this means that the more blog post links you have in that left column pointing to your previous posts, the more easily the search engine spiders will pick up and index those keywords. Make sure you set up your blog template to include your blog’s previous and archived posts on the left.
Don’t forget to make regular daily posts, and ping your blog after each post you make. This will notify the search engines that your blog has new content to spider. If you follow these SEO blog tips, then you will get new traffic to your blog, and find that you will make money online now! Blog traffic can translate to making money if you do it right!

Microsoft Files Cybersquatting Lawsuits

Microsoft Corp. has filed three lawsuits in the U.S. against people and companies it accuses of profiting from the use of Web site addresses containing its trademarked terms.
The suits target cybersquatting or typosquatting, practices that divert Internet users seeking Microsoft Web sites by using similar or slightly misspelled domain names, according to the complaints filed this week in federal courts in New York, Seattle and Fort Wayne, Ind.
“This is a fast-growing issue for all brands on the Internet, and there’s a lot of money at stake,” Aaron Kornblum, an attorney with Microsoft’s Internet safety enforcement team, said in a phone interview.
“The phenomenon is surging as more money is spent on Internet advertising.”
Microsoft brought 15 similar claims worldwide in the past year, allowing the company to take possession of more than 2,000 misused domain names and recover more than $1.17 million in illegal profits, Kornblum said.
Some complaints were filed with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which manages the assignment of domain names.
The allegedly infringing domain names, including “microsoftsystem.com” and “hotmialcom.com” take Internet users to so-called parked pages containing pay-per-click ads, according to the complaints, which accuse the defendants of violating Microsoft trademarks.
Dell Inc., Time Warner Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Yahoo! Inc. are planning to file similar suits this week, according to a statement released Thursday by the International Trademark Association, which claims the companies as members.
The small, online advertising companies targeted by the new suits include Express Personnel Advertising, 260.com Inc. and Realtimeinternet.com Inc.
Separately, Univision Communications Inc., the biggest U.S. Spanish-language media company, won control of the Web site address univision.tv after a national arbitration panel found its owner could misuse it.
The panel granted ownership of the address to New York-based Univision and rejected Edmundo Norte’s claim that he registered the domain name to create a parody Web site, the National Arbitration Forum said Thursday in a statement. The Aug. 18 ruling said Norte tried to charge Univision too much to buy the domain name.
Norte “offered to sell the domain name for an amount in excess of reasonable development expenses, which supports findings of bad faith registration and use,” the Minneapolis-based independent organization said. Binding arbitration is often used as an alternative to court to save money on legal fees.
Univision on Sept. 9 hosted its first U.S. presidential debate. It is among several companies that prevailed recently after using the National Arbitration Forum to settle disputes over cybersquatters, according to the statement.
Hershey Co., the largest U.S. candy maker, in June won ownership of the Web site address chocolatekiss.com after filing a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum, according to the statement. The panel found the domain name was confusingly similar to the company’s “Kisses” trademark for its chocolate candy.

Only 30% Of Top Domains Sold In 2006 Actually In Use
Posted on September 26, 2007

Of the 100 highest-priced domains sold in 2006, only 18 have been developed, 8 redirect to a developed site, 5 are affiliate sites, and 6 are currently under development. 9 domains don’t work at all and a massive 54 show PPC (pay per click) ads.
These numbers seem to indicate that a large percentage of the domain market’s high end is fueled by domainer-to-domainer sales, and/or that most “traditional” sales (to end users) go unreported.

Only 30% Of Top Domains Sold In 2006 Actually In Use

Of the 100 highest-priced domains sold in 2006, only 18 have been developed, 8 redirect to a developed site, 5 are affiliate sites, and 6 are currently under development. 9 domains don’t work at all and a massive 54 show PPC (pay per click) ads.
These numbers seem to indicate that a large percentage of the domain market’s high end is fueled by domainer-to-domainer sales, and/or that most “traditional” sales (to end users) go unreported.
Without much further comment, here’s the list:
